KBC NOTE: Klamath Forest Alliance is the NGO that shut down mills and logging towns for the spotted owl. They also helped found Klamath Riverkeeper, with a board of Klamath River Tribes, that has sued Klamath irrigators regarding water quality, PacifiCorp to rip out dams, and they shut down suction dredge mining.

"...Mark Stern, project coordinator for the Nature Conservancy, said a general agreement has been reached for the purchase of Tulana Farms, a 4700-acre tract at the mouth of the Williamson River. Most of the land would be flooded..."  KBC NOTE: 97,160 acres of agricultural land has been converted into wetlands from ag as primary water usage through 2006 above Klamath Lake. Wetlands use nearly 2ce as much water as ag lands.

AUDIO - Attorney Karen Budd-Falen interviewed by Kirk McKinzie about Equal Access to Justice Act / EAJA, "The ESA does not require the agency to know how many species there are before it's listed...What the Obama administration is proposing is, let's include critical habitat in places where the species may feel like living someday..." Karen explains how the federal government reimburses environmental groups and litigants like Earthjustice and Center for Biological Diversity for attorney fees suing the federal government, however individuals or small groups rarely are reimbursed when trying to save their farms or property. The government does not account for how much money it gives these groups for fees.

"Goodwin became a friend of Hillmans when Hillman became Director of Karuk Natural Resources in Orleans during the late 1980s…. Together they boasted of being the best marijuana growers in Orleans."

(KBC Note: now that the nonprofit organizations have bankrupted the logging companies by shutting down timber harvest, the nonprofits are buying up the forests so they can log them. "In California--which now has 14 million acres of wilderness (second only to Alaska, which has more than 57 million acres) -- the bill would protect about 700,000 additional acres from new roads and most commercial uses such as new mining, logging and energy development...Boxer is working to protect an additional 1.4 million acres of wilderness in California, including areas in the Angeles, Klamath, Lassen and Los Padres national forests."

Why so silent? Pioneer Press 7/24/08."Daily, harmful chemicals are being dumped en mass in our rivers and their tributaries...environmentalist" didn't seem to care. Literally, they didn't care and couldn't be bothered with the harm the marijuana growers are having on our region. He's stated: "This nation has more farmers than it needs", farmers have "narrow-minded intolerance", "grazing of any kind is the ecological problem." In Wild Earth he states: loggers, road-builders, miners, grazing permittees, and off-road vehicle users are the primary destroyers of wildlands."

"Ducks Unlimited received a $789,563 federal grant to help restore t he Upper Klamath Basin watershed."Groups involved in the project include The Nature Conservancy, U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service, Klamath Watershed Council, KBEF/Klamath Basin Ecosystem Foundation, and Klamath Basin Rangeland Trust." Films examine forest, rivers' ecology Documentaries? Three films inspect ecosystems in Oregon and Southeast Asia, posted 2/14/07, The Oregonian. (KBC NOTE: These films blast salvaging Siskiyou burnt forests, and blast Klamath dams. The review celebrates the film made with the tribes and Klamath Water Users. In this review it states "that the dams create unpredictability in water supplies for farmers, deplete fish stocks for coastal fishermen...", however, KBC watched the film and does not find any case for unpredictable water supplies being caused by the dams. Actually, the Klamath Project provides predictable regulated flows for fish and power in the Klamath River. And the coastal fishermen we have talked with say that the government's depleting hatcheries is a cause of 'depleted fish stocks'. They contend the new rule on "natural spawned fish" is the weapon used to shut down fishing, as there are lots of fish spawned in the hatchery, fish genetically equal to natural spawners. (KBC Note: here is an interesting scenario that has nothing to do with Klamath.  Rex Wahl was executive director of Forest Guardians, a radical environmentalist group in NM that has unconditionally opposed logging. Then the Bureau of Reclamation made him a GS-12 Environmental Specialist earning between $55,000 and &72,000 pay plus benefits.)

He helped destroy Oregon's logging industry (helping Oregon be the highest unemployment in the nation). Scottish Power Attempts to Foreclose on Klamath Restoration Options,ONRC Alert 180, 4/23/04.  It appears ONRC, along with the Tribes, are using the expiring license of PacifiCorp to pressure them into introducing more endangered fish into the Klamath Basin. It seems they yelled drought in 2001 and shut down the farmers, and the NAS (National Academy of Science) said it was unjustified.  They blamed us for a Trinity fish die-off and the NAS said it was not the irrigator's fault. Then they wanted the NAS best available science on lake levels and river flows, and the NAS said that lake level/river flow management is unjustified. So they've thrown out the NAS and are trying to insert a new endangered species which would further downsize agriculture in the Klamath Basin. jdk
